New Year, New Life, New Ideas: Blue Changes

It’s a new year, it’s a new life and change is good.

This post is the first part of a series of thoughts and ideas that I need you to read and understand.

For one, I would like to talk about some organisational issues, so let’s get them out of the way first.

Over the course of the short existence of this blog (coming up to two months), I have learned about and experimented with different ways to publish online.

I spent quite some time exploring popular websites (like this one and this one, among lots more) that give advice on the subject of blogging and I came across lots of ‘good practices’. While some of them are working out for me, others aren’t at all. Because of that, I have decided to adjust the way A Life of Blue exists in the blogosphere

And since I believe and practice transparency and honesty, I won’t just go ahead and change things. I want to let you know and see what you have to say, so we can discuss the changes.

As of today:

1. I’m changing the blog publishing schedule.

Having had the word ‘routine’ on my mind for days and days, I realised what has been bugging me all along: My rigid writing and blog posting schedule. I thought it was the right thing to do and so many successful bloggers are into it, but I really don’t enjoy it. So I’m changing it.

I will still publish regularly – between 1 – 3 times a week, maybe even more, never less – but not on set days. I realised that there are times when I have a lot to say and times when I don’t, and that I don’t want to be tied to how often I promised to push publish or not.

I still want to serve my readers to the best of my abilities of course. But I felt uncomfortable with the way I’ve been pressing publish.

Besides: Flexibility is gold.

2. I am also changing the structure of my personal letter.

Up until now, subscribers received two letters from me a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The letter included personal thoughts and a link to the new blogpost that I had just published.

From now on, subscribers will receive new blogposts within their email, meaning you don’t have to click a link to read the post, the content is right in your inbox. I will send my personal letters extra on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. They will include exclusive content, updates and ideas for subscribers’ eyes only. So make sure you sign up!

3. I’m moving comments from here to Google+ – as an experiment this month.

I love comments. Every single one of them. Your words are my world and they mean very much to me.

However, since I spend a lot of time on Google+, engaging with other readers and fellow bloggers, I believe it is the best place to also hold constructive dialogues regarding my blogposts. If you’re not on it yet, believe me, it’s a great place to be – sort of like a big coffee shop where interesting people gather to hang out and have great conversations, share information as well as fantastic content.

If you don’t have an account yet, give it a shot – it’s completely free.

I want to see how it goes for 30 days. If readers don’t like it or the number of people engaging is too little, I will consider to open comments again here on the blog.

So with every blogpost, I will link to Google+ and invite you to leave your thoughts, ideas, criticism and anything you feel you’d like to add to my words. Deal?

That’s all for now. More about the changes that are coming to A Life of Blue (and me) soon.

I love changes. They make for exciting times.

What do you think about my organisational changes? I would love to hear your thoughts over at Google+.
